Day 3 - Meat Pies, Sydney Opera House & Rugby

Day three was hugely productive as we saw some of Sydney's most iconic sites. However, before seeing the sites we needed to eat. We headed to Woolloomooloo Bay, home of the world famous Harry's Cafe de Wheels. Harry's is known for its meat pies, specifically the 'Tiger,' which is a meat pie topped with green pea and potato mash and gravy. Delicious...and very filling.

Mo took it a step further and scarfed down Harry's weiner with chili.

After our meat pie feast, we took a leisurely stroll through the Botanical Gardens to the Opera House. Along the way we realized Sydney is a hotbed for BATS!! Thousands were hanging from the trees like cocoons. Freaky! Mo was not a big fan.

Bats hanging from the branches of the Botanical Garden trees...creepy!!

The Opera House is a massive structure that is worth all the worldwide acclaim and attention it gets. It's an architectural spectacle that took more than 14 years to build. From the Opera House steps you get amazing views of the Sydney skyline, the Harbor Bridge and the surrounding harbor.

Perhaps the highlight of the day was going to a rugby match at the Sydney Football Stadium. We saw the Sydney Roosters take on the Wests Tigers in the annual Foundation Cup (Sydney bragging rights). After a couple hours of knock-ons, tries, scrums and phases, we feel we're pretty well-versed in Rugby lingo. Roosters won 31-10...go Roosters!!

Go Roosters!! Beat the Tigers!!

We ended the day in traditional fashion - a night of drinking with new friends. This time we met up with some American friends who were in town - Megan, Stacey and Lisa. Sunday was more mellow than Friday and Saturday, but we were still able to find some activity at the Opera House Bar and places around King's Cross. The Opera House Bar is on the backside of the Opera House with stunning night views of the Harbor bridge, city skyline, and perfectly lit Opera House...a perfect setting for drinks and conversation.

And what has become a Travel In Sandals staple...enjoying the local late night cuisine.

Greg bargaining with the kebab guy...he saved 50 cents because the guy didn't charge him for the white sauce.

BTW I Know Greg is "thrifty", but I think he bargains for the bragging rights not the money he saves.
