Day 8 - Travel to Copenhagen

We fell asleep around 4am and the alarm went off around 6:45am, so it was a tough morning to say the least. None the less, we've been through this before. Nothing a cup of coffee, a few advil and perhaps some greasy grub can't cure. Our flight was at 9:30am and it's a bout a 2hr flight to the bustling city of Copenhagen, Denmark.

Matt trying to keep up on his soccer skills by dribbling a mini ball through the airport

Brussels Airlines apparently is the official airline of the Belgium National team, who we don't like at the moment since the U.S. faces the Belgian Red Devils on Tuesday night

We arrived at the Copenhagen Airport around 11am and took the local train to the Central Station (above)

Our hotel, Copenhagen Plaza is located conveniently next to the train station which has a massive sports bar called O'Leary's. They say they're one of the city's best sports bars and from the size of the place and amount of screens it seems like a fair claim. In an interesting twist, it's a huge huge Boston bar and they have more Celtics, Red Sox, Patriots, and Bruins pictures, memorabilia, and signs on the walls then any other Boston Bar that we've ever been to. Go figure.

Beer one in Copenhagen

We were still feeling the effects of the night before so we snacked on "a few" baskets of greasy buttery salty popcorn

After a few beers, a dozen or so baskets of popcorn, and a nerve racking Brazil v. Chile penalty kick shootout, we were ready to shower up and head out on the town. We were only a few hours into our stay in Copenhagen and you can already tell that the city is a lively vibrant place filled with young people out and about enjoying life. Perhaps more importantly, Copenhagen has 15 Michelin-starred restaurants, the most of any Scandinavian city, so we have some eating to do.

We hit the popular Ostergade street that runs through the heart of town. It's mostly shopping and small pubs so we bounced around there first to get a lay of the land.

Ostergade Street's main square has performers, music, shops and lots of out of towners

We stopped off for dinner at Mama Rosa, an Italian/Latin spot

We opted for the steak kabobs and the salmon, a solid first meal in this gastronomic city

After dinner we hit PS Bar & Grill which is a highly recommended local cocktail lounge and eatery

Along with cocktails and a lively attractive clientele, they were also showing the soccer matches so it was the best of all worlds

Out and about in Copenhagen. The city has one of the highest number of restaurants and bars per capita in the world so we have our work cut out for us.

It was a solid first day in Copenhagen filled with eating, boozing and football - the three key elements to any good night. Sunday and Monday will be filled with site seeing, tours, eating, dancing and of course more soccer.
