Day 11 - Airlie Beach

Day 11 was a 'free day' as we've begun to call it where we have nothing planned - no day trips, no sites, no friends to meet. We stroll around the city, eat and relax. In this case we were in Airlie Beach, the small backpackers town that acts as a launching site for the Whitsundays. We checked out the lagoon, walked the Esplanade and did some window shopping.

Mo, Matt and Dave rest on the rocks overlooking Airlie Beach.

We stopped for a seafood lunch feast at Fish D'vine and a feast it was. Matt got a seafood bucket with large fresh oysters, bbq prawns, garlic & parmesan breaded calamari, Spanish-seasoned makarel and of course chips (french fries). Greg and Mo got the most appetizing looking clam chowder bread bowl we've ever seen. Normally, soup goes in the bread bowl, but this time not only was the soup in the bread, it was all around it as well!

After a hearty lunch, we relaxed at the hotel pool and got ready for a night out in Airlie.

We were all worn out from the boat trip (not to mention the 11 straight days of dancing, drinking and being on the go), so we planned for it to be a mellow night...not so much! We started at Beaches for drinks with the people from the boat. Our group quickly expanded so we took the show to Phoenix for dancing. Once we shut that place down we moved the party to Paddy Shenanigans's.

Another Aussie city checked off the list. Only a week left. Next up, a travel day - flight and a drive - to Byron Bay.
